FLOODS IN PAKISTAN AUGUST 2010

1.       The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is the body dealing with disaster Relief in the wake of the unprecedented floods that have hit the Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Gilgit – Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Punjab, Baluchistan and Sindh provinces.

2.       The Government of Pakistan will appreciate donation from individuals and NGOs in this hour of need, however in order to avoid wasting time and resources on transportation of relief items, it is preferable that cash donations are sent to the National Disaster Management Fund opened in this regard. Instructions for Donations

3.       Donors who intend to send relief items for the flood relief must mark the consignment in the transport documents to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Islamabad. Details of the consignee are:

4.       Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been instructed to carry relief goods to Pakistan without charge from Copenhagen.

5.       The NDMA will arrange for the reception, transportation within Pakistan, warehousing and distribution through the relevant Federal and provincial Agencies.

6.       The relief items should not be “used items”.

7.       Food items should be “Halal Only”.

8.       Medicines should have sufficient expiry dates and must comply with standards/specifications of Ministry of Health and Health Regulatory Authorities of Pakistan.

9.       The NDMA would issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) for import of relief items as per SOPs for such NOC is available on NDMA’s website (www.ndma.gov.pk) under the title “books and publications”.

10.     All kinds of duties and taxes shall be waived off on relief goods dispatched in the name of National Disaster Management Authority, Government of Pakistan.

11.     There will be no handling and landing charges at the airports in Pakistan.
